Mini-Theremin Kit

2012 / HackerSpace Seoul Project

The mini-theremin kit was put together to promote HackerSpace Seoul at Maker Faire 2012 Seoul and was intended for hobbyists and kids seven or above who wish to learn about basic circuitry and unique electrical components. The mini-theremin uses photo receptors and some audio amplifiers to create an interactive and auditory experience. The photo receptors change their output frequency based on the amount of incident light. These electrical changes allow the user to easily and delicately adjust the sound pitch with the motion of their hand over these photoreceptors so that it can be played like a musical instrument.
