Iron Hack
2011 - 2012 / Event Co-organizer, HackerSpace Seoul Project
Iron Hack is a design competition inspired by the TV show Iron Chef, a popular Japanese culinary game show built around a single theme ingredient that has spawned numerous international adaptations. The event is an outgrowth of a community building project of HackerSpace Seoul to creatively engage our community and shed the negative connotations associated with the word "hack". Contestants are presented with an abundance of a single type of material - the "secret ingredient" - with which they would have to "hack", as in use to build something meaningful or interesting within 2 hours. Jury members then decide the finalists and the audience vote on the best hacks.
Through hacking, we motivate people to question what things are and what they could be, and how everyday materials can be recreated into something completely new. Past ingredients include tape, wooden chopsticks, and most recently zip ties.
