Hello, I'm Sung [suhng].
I am an artist, designer and programmer who experiments with emerging media technologies to create immersive, interactive experiences and applications that fuse the physical and the virtual. Since Nov. 2015, I work as a full-time researcher in the Korea Culture Technology Institute (KCTI) in Gwangju, an institute established by Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) in 2013 for Culture Technology R&D. In KCTI, I work either independently or as a part of a team on various government-directed interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of art, science and technology. My research combines artistic inquiry, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) approaches and data visualization methods to build interactive prototypes that investigate more intuitive, expressive ways of authoring and engaging with digital content. The overarching themes that connect my diverse range of output are embodied interaction, playful engagement, and creative empowerment. My current ongoing research focuses on examining potential methods of exploring high-dimensional data using our natural spatial intuitions. Many of my art-science research projects and collaborative works have been funded by the Korea Foundation for Advancement in Science & Creativity (KOFAC) and Seoul Foundation of Arts & Culture.
